HYBRID SYSTEMS

Today, the effort to find better, economical and efficient systems and stricter emission regulations recommended by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) drives engineers to offer smart solutions.

One of these systems is the hybrid propulsion system, which consists of a main diesel engine and an electric motor. Mechanical and electrical power work together, providing a flexible power demand. The combination of mechanical power provided by diesel engines and electrical power supplied by electric motors provides the ship with propulsion power giving the propeller wide operating capability and the right amount of power and torque in any operating mode. Switching from a diesel engine to an electric motor or reversing it at the right time provides fuel efficiency. For the diesel-mechanical system, the propulsion system is designed for maximum power demand, but there is no such problem in the hybrid system due to its flexible power demand capability.

FONDA pushes the limits of engineering by designing hybrid ships, taking into account customer requests.
